If you are looking for somewhere unlike any other property available for holiday rental in the Alps, this 300 m² Manhattan loft style apartment sleeping up to six guests could be just what you are looking for.
With six metre high steel-framed windows on two sides, the main living space offers an incredible sense of light and space. From the property’s elevated setting, there are uninterrupted views over Zermatt and the Mattertal which runs northwards to the Rhône valley. Most of the furniture and artwork in the loft has been created by Heinz and his signature design aesthetic is firmly stamped on the property.
On the left hand side of the living space, a wood-burning open fireplace set into the exterior glass is faced by a velvet-upholstered sofa and custom-built armchairs arranged around a coffee table, with a metal and glass chandelier hanging above it.
To the right of the space a large glass-topped dining table suspended from the ceiling can be lowered at mealtimes or raised out of the way as required, and a Steinway baby grand piano stands in the far corner.
The ceiling is supported by circular concrete columns and the polished concrete floor adds to the industrial-chic aesthetic. If shade from the sunlight or some privacy is needed, there is a motorised exterior curtain which wraps around the outside of the windows.
The mezzanine first floor overlooking the living space is accessed by open staircases at either side. The loft’s kitchen is on the mezzanine, along with a bar and guest WC. Next to the kitchen is a breakfast table surrounded by metal and leather benches and chairs. At the far end of the mezzanine a U-shaped sofa stands next to an octagonal concrete hot tub.
The loft has three double bedrooms, two of which are next to the living space, one above the other with floor-to-ceiling windows at the front and a glass wall separating them from the living space. Both these bedrooms have private en suite shower rooms.
The master suite occupies the entire top floor of the property, set back from the lower levels on the steep mountainside. There is a custom-built king-sized bed, TV, walk-in wardrobe, a Jacuzzi bath and an en-suite shower room.
There is a sauna and cross-country exercise machine on the top floor. Guests have reduced price access spa at the Julen family’s Backstage Hotel in the centre of town.
Access to the Heinz Julen Residence housing the Loft and the Penthouse above is via the tunnel and elevator leading to the Hotel Omnia, from where it is a couple of minutes walk to the Residence. From street level an elevator serves all levels of the property.
